The body of a woman has been found in a street in a town centre.

The death, in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, was being treated as unexplained by Staffordshire Police who said they were keeping an open mind about the circumstances leading up to her death.

Emergency crews were called to a report of a body on Foundry Street at about 04:15 BST. A woman in her 50s was declared dead at the scene after officers attempted to resuscitate her.

A cordon has been put in place in the street with an increased level of police in the area as part of officers' investigations, the force added.
