A man died after a tree branch fell on him in his tent while he was camping in a park during high winds, police have said.

Lancashire Police said officers found him in Revoe Park in Central Drive, Blackpool, at 05:00 BST.

A police spokesperson said "a tree branch had fallen on a tent and struck" the man, who was in his 40s.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said his death was not being treated as suspicious and that inquiries were continuing to try to locate his next of kin.

A Blackpool Council spokesman said: "We are awaiting further information to understand the circumstances that led to him sleeping in the park.

"Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this terribly sad time."
