A stretch of the M42 closed northbound in Worcestershire after a camper van caught fire.

The carriageway was shut while emergency services attended following a call at about 09:15 GMT on Saturday.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said the van's driver pulled over when the vehicle became engulfed by flames near junction 2 for Alvechurch by Hopwood Park Services.

Firefighters extinguished the flames, with travel delays building up towards junction 1 for Bromsgrove as traffic was held.

The fire service said nobody was injured during the incident, and gritting teams had been called to ensure the water used by crews did not freeze and cause a further hazard.

National Highways said traffic on the northbound carriageway was diverted up and over the junction.

It warned motorists to expect delays, with congestion tailing back about three miles (4.8km) at 11:00 GMT.

The carriageway reopened shortly after midday.
