Plans to replace pub with houses set for approval

Plans to demolish a pub in Chesterfield to make way for new homes, are set to be given the go-ahead.

An application to knock down The Badger pub in Brockwell Lane and construct up to nine detached houses has been recommended for approval by Chesterfield Borough Council planning officers.

According to planning documents, the pub, which opened in the 1960s, closed because of "financial and economic constraints".

A report prepared for councillors said the proposed development would provide a "meaningful contribution" towards housing supply in the area, on a brownfield site.

The applicant Brockwell Asset Management Co, said it wanted to create a "high quality" residential development, which would be "appropriate" for the area.

The plans are set to be considered on Monday.
