A man has been critically hurt in an attack by a gang reportedly armed with knives and a bat.

The victim was assaulted in the Lindsey Street area of Scunthorpe in the early hours of Sunday and his van and personal belongings were taken, Humberside Police said.

The 43-year-old is in a critical condition in hospital, the force confirmed.

Two men and two women have been arrested in connection with the robbery.

Two of the suspects were arrested at a property on nearby Rowland Road.

A 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and a 40-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of robbery and obstructing or resisting a constable in the execution of their duty.

Two others, a 33-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman, were arrested later near Cottage Beck Road, Frodingham, on suspicion of wounding with intent.

A large police presence, including forensic officers, was seen earlier.
