A man allegedly seen carrying an axe in Nottingham has been arrested after a taxi driver's tyres were slashed following a "disagreement".

Police said armed officers were sent to Waterloo Crescent, near Forest Recreation Ground, at about 08:20 BST on Thursday.

A 22-year-old man was arrested soon afterwards when a vehicle was stopped on Mansfield Road in the city centre.

He is being questioned on suspicion of affray, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and possession of a Class B drug.

Ch Insp Jon Scurr, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Incidents such as this are totally unacceptable and will always be met with a robust response."
