One of the busiest bridges in Nottinghamshire is to be closed overnight for maintenance work.

The A52 Clifton Bridge will be shut both ways between Clifton Lane and Queens Drive from 20:00 BST on Thursday to 06:00 on Friday.

It will also be closed from 22:00 on Friday to 06:00 on Saturday for the work which will see additional lighting installed, National Highways said.

Drivers have been advised to allow extra time for journeys and follow marked diversion routes.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout.

A National Highways spokesperson said: "We'll make every effort to ensure the impact on the local community and travelling public is kept to a minimum.

"We always aim to work to the programme, however unforeseen circumstances or adverse weather conditions may mean changes.

"Once completed, road users will benefit from a safer road, and safety remains our number one priority."
