A man arrested on suspicion of murder has been released without charge after an investigation determined that the death of a woman near a riverbank was not suspicious.

Police were called to the area behind Tilehurst railway station in Berkshire at about 23:30 BST on Sunday to reports of a 28-year-old woman suffering a cardiac arrest.

She was taken to hospital where she later died, and a 39-year-old man from Reading was arrested on the same day.

The force said a post-mortem examination found the cause of death was "inconclusive with further tests required" but was "not deemed to be suspicious".

The force said the woman's next of kin had now been informed and were being supported by officers.

It added that no-one else was being sought in connection with the death.

"Our officers will prepare a file for the coroner, who will be responsible for confirming the woman's identity," the statement added.

Police said scene by the riverbank had also been stood down.
