A double-decker bus has crashed into a low railway bridge after trying to pass underneath it.

Avon and Somerset Police were called to the bridge in Lower Bristol Road in Twerton, near Bath, shortly before 20:30 BST on Wednesday.

No one is believed to have been injured in the crash, which involved a vehicle run by operator First Bus.

A structural engineer is due to attend the scene later to assess any damage to the bridge, before vehicle recovery work can be carried out, police said.

Road users are being advised to find alternative routes until the road has been cleared.

The bridge was the site of a similar crash in May last year, after a U5 Bath City bus made the same error.
