Islanders invited behind the scenes by coastguard

Jersey Coastguard has organised an open day to raise awareness of its work and services - and for those considering a maritime career.
The free event at Maritime House in St Helier will be an opportunity "for boat owners and search and rescue volunteers to see the faces behind the voices they speak to" on the radio, a spokesman said.
It is also aimed at those considering a career with Jersey Coastguard, it added, to chat to the team and for interested islanders to go "behind the scenes".
Phil Le Nevue, from Jersey Coastguard, said: "It's a great opportunity to explain how we work, and for the people who use our services to meet the face behind the voice."
He added: "Everyone is welcome to pop in, you don't have to own a boat to come along.
"We live on an island and it's important for everyone to understand sea safety."
Jersey Coastguard, external is responsible for the safety of life and the security of the maritime environment in Jersey's territorial waters.
The coastguard said in June 2024 it had been called out more than 100 times over the previous 12 months.
The event will take place on Sunday 20 October from 11:00-14:00 BST.
