The care watchdog has praised community health inpatient services at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust after an unannounced two-day inspection.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) found that care for older adults at Milford and Haslemere Hospitals was safe, effective, responsive and well-led.

No ratings were given for their services due to the inspection's focused nature.

This was the first inspection of its kind within the hospitals, which both have two wards caring for older adults with a total of 46 beds.

Patients treated compassionately

Inspectors, who visited in June, found there were low vacancy rates and enough staff were on duty to meet patients' needs.

However, the CQC said a few patients told them they sometimes felt it was understaffed.

The CQC said the 13 patients they spoke to reported staff were caring and treated them in a professional, compassionate manner.

Patients also felt involved in their care and said staff worked to ensure they could be discharged safely.
