Biker, 37, dies in crash with car near Motherwell

A man has died after his motorbike was in collision with a car in North Lanarkshire.

The fatal crash happened near Motherwell, on the A775 Edinburgh Road, at 16:25 on Monday.

Police Scotland said the biker - a 37-year-old man - died at the scene but the 59-year-old male car driver was not hurt.

Officers have appealed for information about the crash, which happened near the junction for Biggar Road, and involved a blue Yamaha YZF R1 motorbike and a red Ford Focus.

The road was closed for seven hours while officers investigated the crash, and it reopened at about 23:25.

Sgt Nick Twigg said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died.

“Our inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and anyone who can assist is asked to get in touch.

“If you were driving near the area at the time and have not already spoken to police, or have dash-cam that could assist then please make contact with officers, external.”
