Highways officials want to ban U-turns on a major road and introduce new parking restrictions.

Lancashire County Council plans to prohibit Blackpool-bound drivers from turning around on Watery Lane at the junction with Pedders Lane in the Ashton area of Preston.

Officials said they want to protect pedestrians crossing the carriageway at the traffic lights.

The council also wants to outlaw parking on a stretch of Blackpool Road to make bus journeys smoother.

A round-the-clock ban could be introduced from just after the junction with First Avenue through to Fairfield Avenue on the eastbound side of the carriageway.

On the opposite side of the road, parking will be outlawed on week days between 07:00 and 19:00 BST from Grosvenor Place.

An existing parking ban on Tulketh Brow would also be extended.

Council officials said the restrictions would "help to ease congestion and improve traffic flow" and "enhance overall bus journey times".

Public consultations have been launched into the proposals.
