A man has died after he was hit by an HGV and "a number of other vehicles" on a motorway in Lancashire, prompting a police appeal.

The pedestrian, believed to be in his 40s, was struck between junctions 5 and 6 of the eastbound M65 near Blackburn at about 21:00 BST on Friday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, Lancashire Police said.

Sgt Pete Fyans appealed for anyone with information or footage to contact them, describing it as an “extremely complex and traumatic incident”.
