The project aims to prevent further erosion along the River Caldew in Carlisle

Work to prevent further erosion along the banks of a river is to be carried out.

Cumberland Council is to make repairs along the River Caldew near Sheepmount Bridge in Carlisle.

Traffic in the area will be disrupted for about four weeks from Monday 25 November while the project is carried out.

The council said the protection measures were needed to prevent further erosion and to allow people to continue to access the area.

The work will take place on weekdays between 08:00 and 17:00 GMT.

It will involve rocks being delivered to the site, the installation of temporary fences, bat surveys and tree pruning by specialist arborists.

Traffic management measures will be in place on Mayor's Drive, but pedestrian and cycle routes will be unaffected.

However, the car park at the Sheepmount will be closed during the project as it will be used by the contractor.
