'Vital' food bank relocating to new home

St Ives Food Bank's new location would help it meet growing demand, a trustee said

A food bank in Cornwall is relocating after finding a new home.

St Ives Food Bank, which provides meals and other services to residents in crisis, was nearing the end of its eight-year tenancy at Chy an Gweal chapel.

The Edward Hain Centre (EHC), located at the former hospital building in St Ives, said it offered the food bank a new home as it was a "vital resource" for residents.

EHC centre manager Sharron Goldingay said the centre had rooms available for the food bank's needs but added there would soon be extensive renovations in the building.

"The food bank is a vital resource to local residents affected by food poverty," she said.

"Everyone at the EHC is thrilled to welcome them to their new home."

Reverend Christopher Wallis, the food bank's trustee and project co-ordinator, said they were "excited" to join forces with EHC.

"Being at the centre will enable us to meet the growing demand for our services more easily," he said.

He added the new location was closer to majority of people it supports and would "dramatically improve efficiency in service delivery of over 2,500 meals per week".
