Hundreds of people gathered to see a Spanish tall ship dock in a seaside town as part of its European tour.

Great Yarmouth welcomed the Galeón Andalucía, a replica of a 17th century galleon, into South Quay on Tuesday shortly before 20:00 BST, after it was delayed due to the weather.

The boat was constructed by the Nao Victoria Foundation and since its launch in 2009 has sailed 80,500 miles (129,552km) across the world.

Ruth Cockrill, the marketing events officer at Great Yarmouth Borough Council, said: "She is a truly incredible ship and we can't wait for her arrival."

Displayed on board the Galeón Andalucía, which has six decks has been described as a floating museum, is the history of similar vessels which would have taken a lead role in establishing trade routes during that time period.

The boat features more than 9687 sq ft (900 sq metres) of sail and is 162 ft (49m) long and 33 ft (10m) wide.

As the boat came into the dock two shots were fired from its canon and crowds of people welcomed its arrival.

Barry Parsons, 67, a professional photographer from Norwich, waited about four hours to see the vessel and said it was "worth the wait".

He compared the ship to the Black Pearl vessel from the film the Pirates of the Caribbean.

The Galeón Andalucía's stopover in Great Yarmouth is part of the boat's 2024 tour, external across Europe. It will also visit Italy, the Netherlands and Germany to continue to share the history of how the Spanish tall ships connected continents across the world.

Ms Cockrill said: ''Great Yarmouth Borough Council is delighted to have helped secure the visit of Galeón Andalucía to the town.

''The visit promises to offer a fascinating day out for people of all ages. She is a truly incredible ship... it promises to be a stunning spectacle for people to enjoy on South Quay.''

Members of the public will be able to visit the boat until Sunday 9 June.
