Lecturer honoured for boosting women's sport

Dr Jordan Matthews was honoured for his role in stimulating women's sport

A West Sussex university lecturer has been recognised for his role in developing women’s leadership in sport.

Dr Jordan Matthews, senior lecturer in sport management at the University of Chichester, was handed an outstanding achievement trophy at the Everything in Sport Awards, external.

He was honoured for his contribution to stimulation in women’s sport in a ceremony at Wembley Stadium.

Dr Matthews said he was "proud to have played my part".

The Sussex-based lecturer is programme development officer of the Women’s Sport Leadership Academy, external (WSLA), which aims to boost development and leadership opportunities for women in sport.

It has already supported more than 400 women leaders in sport based in over 70 countries.

The programme is hosted at the University of Chichester.

On winning the award, Mr Matthews said: “WSLA was established in 2014 and, since then, many people have contributed to its success.

"We continue to develop it as an outstanding programme and have some exciting plans going forward.”
