A giant globe is on display in a Wirral park.

The artwork, known as Gaia, created by UK artist Luke Jerram, is on show at Birkenhead Park for three days.

Measuring seven metres in diameter (23ft) it has been created using detailed NASA imagery of the Earth's surface.

Bev Ayre, senior producer at arts charity Walk the Plank said it reflected the Borough of Culture 2024 theme of the environment.

She said the installation was "about raising awareness of the fragility of the planet" and hoped it would inspire visitors.

"I'd like them to feel inspired to save the planet, inspired to get involved in arts and culture and inspired to think that they belong here and that this space is for them," she said.

Music by BAFTA award-winning composer Dan Jones is played alongside the sculpture.

The Mayor of Wirral, Cherry Povall, said it was "fantastic" for Wirral to host the display.

A series of cultural events will run alongside the display, which runs until Thursday.
