A "very thin seal pup" has been rescued from a beach in Guernsey.

The GSPCA said the grey seal pup, which it named Grinch to reflect the festive period, was found at Pembroke Bay on Tuesday afternoon.

The charity said the six-week-old pup was found weighing 12kg (1st 8lb), when it should have been weighing more than 40kg (6st 2lbs).

Steve Byrne, GSPCA manager, said it would be caring for Grinch day and night.

He said Grinch was the first seal pup rescue of the season.

“Grinch is extremely thin and will need 24/7 care, and is now at our intensive care area for seals, which we are hoping to rebuild next year.”

Mr Byrne said within the last decade, the charity had released 32 grey seal pups back into the sea.
