City paddling pool closed days after reopening

A paddling pool at a city centre park was forced to shut days after it reopened due to a fault with the water pump.
The facility at Peterborough's Central Park opened on 2 July - which was two months later than it would normally open for the summer season - but was shut on Thursday.
Peterborough City Council said the reopening was delayed this year so that it could "focus on making sure the pool can be opened consistently during July and August for the core summer months".
A spokesperson for the authority said: "We apologise to families for the inconvenience and recognise that many were looking forward to using the paddling pool this week."
A spokesperson for the council said: "The paddling pool opened at the start of July. This week we were made aware of an issue with the water pump.
"An engineer and electrician have visited and we are awaiting further information regarding the fault. We apologise to families for the inconvenience and recognise that many were looking forward to using the paddling pool this week. We will update residents as soon as we can."
Last year, the paddling pool had to be shut over the summer holidays until September due to a number of issues, such as mechanical faults and traces of Legionella bacteria found in the water.
The Bretton Water Park in Barnstock, Peterborough, which was due to reopen on 9 July is still closed.
The facility, which is managed by Vivacity, is now expected to open on 23 July.
Claire Smith, from Vivacity, said it hoped to be in a position to open Bretton Water Park by next Tuesday. It will have more information once maintenance checks are carried out.
Peterborough Lido on Bishop’s Road was also forced to close on 7 July due to an issue in its plant room. It reopened on 11 July after a new part “which proved tricky to get” was installed in the plant room.
