A building in a Devon village has been completely damaged by smoke, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service (DSFRS) have said.

A fire crew was dispatched at about 08:20 BST on Monday to Golf Links Road, Buckland Monochorum after reports of a fire in an outbuilding.

The crew, from Yelverton, were able to confirm a small fire had occurred and emptied the building.

DSFRS said the building "suffered 25% fire damage and 100% smoke damage."

The cause of the fire was accidental and was believed to have been caused by overheated batteries that were charging, it added.

DSFRS said crew carried out investigations using two breathing apparatus, a hose reel jet, a thermal image camera, a positive pressure ventilation fan, small tools and a gas monitor.

There were no reports of any injuries.
