A PCSO has been deployed outside a school after reports of "inconsiderate and dangerous parking", Humberside Police has said.

The officer was on patrol outside Welton Primary School, in East Yorkshire, on Tuesday.

In a newsletter asking parents not to park on zigzag lines, the school said "we have observed some near misses with children walking out from behind parked cars" and "exiting cars onto the road".

One parent described the parking as "absolutely ridiculous".

Scott said he had seen "numerous occasions where they've nearly hit children".

Yellow zigzag lines, marked "school, keep clear", are in place at points outside the school, which is opposite homes in Elloughtonthorpe Way.

"People just use everybody else's drive to turn around with no due care and attention," Scott added.

"You've got kids walking up and down the footpaths and people are in so much of a rush they just drive up the kerb, drive up the drives and spin around straight away.

"They don't even look where the kids are."

Another man dropping children off said that "people should be more respectful of the various signs".

But he added: "Maybe the road should have been planned a bit better. We should look at the builders, maybe not the parents."

In a post on Facebook, Humberside Police urged parents to "think about the safety of the children first, before you leave your vehicle".

Headteacher Nikki Pidgeon said: “Safety of our pupils at drop-off and pick-up times is important to our school community.

"After some feedback from parents and residents we decided to take some action, with the help of our local PCSO, to ensure that traffic management is safe at these busy times.

“We have also written to parents letting them know how they can help keep everyone safe.

"We are encouraging families to use active travel – walking, scooting or cycling to school where they can – as this has many physical benefits as well as being an enjoyable start to the day.”
