Two firearm incidents which occurred within about a half hour of each other could be linked, police have said.
Officers believed a gun was discharged at about 01:05 BST on Wednesday at a property on Nevis Grove, Bletchley, near Milton Keynes, with the offender leaving in a motor vehicle.
Then at 01:40, police believe a suspect smashed a first-floor window with a firearm at a property in Farthing Grove, Netherfield, in Milton Keynes.
No-one was injured, Thames Valley Police said.
Det Insp Rachel Wheaton said: "A scene watch remains in place and there is likely to be increased levels of police presence in both areas while investigations continue.
"We believe the incidents are linked, but we are keeping an open mind."
She appealed for anyone with information, dashcam, doorbell or CCTV footage, to get in touch.
