A man who killed a homeless father has been arrested after he went missing from an open prison.

Suffolk Police said Sean Doherty from Corby, Northamptonshire, failed to return to Hollesley Bay prison, in Suffolk, after he was put on temporary release.

The 30-year-old was serving a sentence of eight years and five months for manslaughter after killing Thomas Gravestock in 2018.

He was arrested on Wednesday, in Corby by Northamptonshire police.

Northampton Crown Court was told in 2019 that Doherty attacked Mr Gravestock, a father of two children, over a £20 debt.

He took a photo of Mr Gravestock with his own foot on the head of his victim, who suffered 35 blunt force injuries, and sent it to friends.

Doherty, from Lincoln Way in Corby, admitted manslaughter.

A Suffolk Police spokesperson said: "He was on a period of release from the prison on temporary licence but failed to return on Tuesday 9 July.

"Police would like to thank the public and the media for their help with the matter."
