People warned to avoid area after gas leak

Members of the public have been asked to avoid the area

Residents were ordered to close their doors and windows while emergency services dealt with a gas leak between Rotherham and Barnsley.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said the incident took place on Barnsley Road in West Melton on Wednesday afternoon, but has since concluded.

South Yorkshire Police were also at the scene, with a road closure in place between the junction of Kingfisher Drive and Wath Road.

Members of the public were asked to avoid the area while the incident was ongoing.
