A man has been arrested on suspicion of making a hoax bomb threat.

Wiltshire Police said officers were called to The Parade in Swindon at about 21:30 BST on Saturday.

Officers said a 100m (328ft) cordon was put in place and a package was assessed and dealt with by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team. Police carried out a controlled explosion as a precaution and the cordon was lifted at about 02:30 on Sunday.

A 41-year-old man from Southrop, Gloucestershire, remains in custody, police said.

The force added that a protest was held in the same location earlier that day, but the two incidents were not believed to be connected.
