Jersey hosts international marine safety conference
- Published
A conference looking to improve on the safety of future marine strategies is being held in Jersey.
The Red Ensign Group conference (REG) oversees and upholds maritime safety standards across 13 British Shipping Registers.
The REG is made up of the United Kingdom, the Crown dependencies and the UK Overseas Territories which are directly involved with maritime and coastal state responsibilities.
About 80 delegates from the registers are due to be discussing issues including sustainability, greener shipping and ways to improve the performance of the registers internationally.
Capt Bill Sadler, Jersey’s Harbour Master, said he was "proud" Jersey was hosting the 35th conference.
"It’s important that we continue to work together to enhance the quality and reputation of the British fleet," he said.
Sustainable Economic Development Minister Kirsten Morel said he hoped it would "raise the island’s international profile and reputation as a jurisdiction that is actively working to ensure safety at sea".
It will run from Tuesday 18 to Thursday 20 June.
