A man who was stabbed was then struck by a vehicle while police officers attended the scene, detectives have said.
Bedfordshire Police was called to reports of a stabbing on Monday at about 20:00 BST in Bailey Street, Luton.
As they were responding, a black Volvo, believed to be linked to the incident, collided with the officers' vehicle and the victim.
Later police were called to reports of another collision between the same black Volvo and a parked vehicle in Cromwell Hill, Luton.
The injured man, aged in his 20s, was taken to hospital and has since been discharged.
The occupants of the vehicle, described by police as two Asian men in their 20s, fled the scene before officers arrived.
Det Insp Kim Caddy said: “We know that incidents of this nature will no doubt cause some concern amongst local residents, however, I would like to reassure the public that we continue to do all in our power to apprehend those that perpetuate violence in our communities.
"We are appealing to anyone who was near the two locations between 20:00 and 20:30 and may have witnessed the stabbing and collisions, or the events leading up to and following either incident.
"The driver was wearing a black hoodie, while the passenger wore a grey hoodie and jeans."
