A man has been arrested on suspicion of two counts of attempted murder in Exeter, police have said.

Devon and Cornwall Police said the victims were taken to hospital where they were being treated for their injuries.

The force said the victims were "assaulted with a knife" in Bampfylde Street, Exeter, at about 02:00 BST.

Officers said their injuries were "serious but not life-threatening".

Police said the victims, a 22-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man, were waiting at a bus stop when they were approached by an unknown suspect.

Officers said the woman was stabbed and the man was slashed.

A cordon was in place on Bampfylde Street, Sidwell Street and Western Way but it has now been lifted, police said.

"It was further reported that the suspect had fled but he was located by officers nearby," a force spokesman said.

"A knife was also located and seized at the scene."
