The homes will be built near Ashford station

A new development of 35 homes near a Surrey railway station will go ahead.

The plans for Station Approach and Woodthorpe Road in Ashford were approved by Spelthorne councillors on Tuesday.

A previous application for 40 homes on the same site was refused by the council and dismissed on appeal by a government planning inspector.

The approved proposal is one floor lower and has five fewer homes than the previous rejected one.

Councillors approved the application with 10 votes in favour, none against and one abstention.

The two- and three-storey office buildings currently on the site will be demolished under the plans.
