A crash on the M6 motorway has left one person dead.

Cumbria Police say a single vehicle was involved in the incident on the northbound carriageway at about 11:00 BST.

The road was closed between junction 36 and 38 to allow for investigations and the removal of the vehicle.

A police spokesman said: "The northbound carriageway is likely to remain closed for some time whilst police and partners continue their work at the scene."
