A Wolverhampton pub could lose its alcohol licence after West Midlands Police said bosses at the venue were unable to provide CCTV after a man was allegedly hit by a brick.

The force requested the footage from The Gate pub on Bilston Road after the group fight in June.

In a report to City of Wolverhampton Council, police said they had concerns that the pub was "not being run properly" and licensing rules were being "undermined".

The council's licensing sub-committee will review the evidence at a meeting on Wednesday before deciding if the premises can still trade. The BBC has reached out to the venue for comment.

West Midlands Police has applied for the authority to review the pub's licence agreement following the incident in June.

The force said that detectives were investigating after a man suffered a 1.5 inch (4cm) cut and a broken nose after he was hit on the head with a brick while breaking up a mass fight.

Paramedics took the man to hospital over concerns he may have fractured his skull.

During their investigation into the crime, licence holder, Raj Kumar Jassa, said the premises did not have CCTV cameras, West Midlands Police said.

Officers were also not sure who was the designated premises supervisor (DPS) - the person responsible for authorising alcohol sales and the primary contact for licensing authorities.

As the police are unsure who the DPS is, they said they did not know who was running this premises or if they were suitable to hold a valid licence.

The council committee will hear evidence from the police and the licence holder before deciding if the licence should be suspended for a month, the operating schedule should be amended, opening times should be reduced or the licence should be permanently ended.
