A woman with a history of violence against emergency workers has been fined after assaulting a nurse.

Michaela Cable, 25, of Meadow Drive in Diss, Norfolk, pleaded guilty to common assault against the nurse in Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital's accident and emergency unit on 19 July.

She scratched and hit the nurse before attempting to bite her right forearm - having made contact with her teeth, Norwich Magistrates' Court heard on Tuesday.

Cable was ordered to pay a £200 fine, £50 compensation to the nurse and an £80 victim surcharge.

Cable already had four convictions for 11 assaults against emergency workers and owed more than £2,000 in fines for these offences, the court was told.

Vulnerable individual

At the time of the offence, the nurse had asked Cable to leave when she refused to stop vaping, the court heard.

According to her defence solicitor, Cable had gone to the hospital for a kidney infection and was described as a vulnerable person with mental health issues and had ADHD and was autistic.

Cable has to attend hospital every three months due to problems with her kidneys, the court heard.

During her police interview Cable apologised, after first refusing to comment.

The maximum sentence for those who assault emergency workers, which includes NHS staff, was doubled to two years in 2022.

The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was contacted for comment.
