A man who was living on a traffic island in Derby has been removed by the council.

Stephen Bullock, who likes to be known as Tiggz, had been living in his colourful van on Cock Pitt Island, off the A601, for about six months.

He previously told the BBC he believed he had the right to claim the land as his own and had struggled with receiving support from the council.

A spokesperson for Derby City Council said on Thursday: "Derby City Council's public protection team, alongside High Court enforcement officers, Derbyshire Police, and other partners, took action to remove Mr Bullock from Cock Pitt Island."

Mr Bullock, who says he helps to provide shelter for homeless people after struggling to find support for himself, told the BBC in June he would challenge the authority's decision to remove him.

The council said that the process was conducted "safely", and added Mr Bullock was aware of the process to reclaim his possessions.
