A library has closed with immediate effect due to a "serious building issue" being identified, a council has confirmed.
Cumberland Council said Carlisle Library, in The Lanes shopping centre, would be closed until further notice.
Posting on social media, the local authority said it hoped to issue an update after the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.
The library is currently undergoing a £3.3m renovation. The work, funded by the government, includes electrical rewiring and the creation of a children's zone, study spaces and adult learning classrooms.
