A man was found with serious injuries on a road several hours after a car hit a telegraph pole.

Paramedics had responded to police reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a car, at about 19:45 BST on Monday, West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) said.

An ambulance, air ambulance and paramedic officer were sent to the scene at the junction of Burnaby Road and Holbrook Lane, Coventry.

The victim was found nearly four hours after West Midlands Police officers were called to the same junction just before 16:00, after a car had hit the pole. However, the driver had left the scene before they arrived, and it is not clear whether the two incidents are connected.

After the victim was found, bystanders performed first aid on him, before paramedics carried out trauma care at the scene, and then taking him to hospital.

Police said he was found with serious injuries just after 19:30, and officers are still working to establish what happened to him.

The force, when asked if the two incidents were linked, said its investigation was ongoing.
