A wood-fired winter sauna set up on a seaside resort's beach has been granted planning consent.

The pod, that can seat up to eight people, is up and running near the Pier Bandstand in Weymouth.

As it is a moveable structure on a trailer it was opened under a 28-day rule, similar to pop-up campsites.

Under conditions set by Dorset Council, it will be in place from November until 28 February.

A hut will stand on the site for use by disabled swimmers during the summer.

In future years the operators may be asked not to open the facility on Remembrance Day and other days when nearby memorials are likely to have people paying tribute to those who lost their lives in war.

Saunas have also been set up at other seaside resorts in Dorset, including Swanage and Seatown.
