Motorists travelling on a stretch of the M2 in Kent have been warned by firefighters over smoke from a field fire.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) said at 20:00 BST on Friday they had been called to reports of a “large amount” of straw burning in a field off Wrens Road in Bredgar, near Sittingbourne.

One fire engine is in attendance as crews work to extinguish the blaze.

Locals have been advised to keep windows and doors closed due to the smoke.

“Motorists travelling on the M2, between Junctions 5 and 6, are also being warned of the smoke, which is blowing across the motorway,” a KFRS spokesman said.

“Please share this information with any loved ones in the area, who may not have access to the internet.”
