Dual carriageway to close on football matchday
- Published
Football fans have been urged to plan ahead because of roadworks on a stretch of dual carriageway.
The northbound carriageway of the A34 near Oxford will be shut from the Hinksey Hill junction to the A44 Peartree interchange from 21:00 on Friday until 06:00 BST on Monday for resurfacing work.
It follows four overnight closures on the same section of road, with three more taking place straight after the weekend works.
National Highways called it an "essential upgrade", and advised residents, motorists and football fans to allow extra travel time.
It said: "We know that Oxford United are playing at home to Burnley FC on Saturday with a 15:00 kick off.
"Home league attendances are expected to be 11,000+ and this is likely to exacerbate traffic in the area.
"We want all fans to get to the game on time and reduce the risk of gridlock for both local residents and travellers through the area."
There will be a signed diversion route via the Oxford ring road.
