An elderly woman has been left with life-threatening injuries after she was struck by a car in Sheffield.

South Yorkshire Police was called to Stannington Road at about 09:50 BST on Wednesday after the collision between the 89-year-old pedestrian and a silver Nissan Micra.

The woman was taken to hospital and remains in a critical condition, the force said.

Any witnesses to the crash or those with footage have been urged to come forward by officers.

Stannington Road was closed from The Anvil pub to the Lidl supermarket while police worked at the scene, with the road since reopening.
