Plans to rebuild restaurant destroyed by fire

Plans have been submitted to Cornwall Council to demolish and rebuild a restaurant that was destroyed by fire.

Owners Tom and Nicki Bradbury of the Kingswood Restaurant at London Apprentice, near St Austell, also want to retain and refurbish the building's existing hotel wing.

The planning application said the restaurant was "well-known within the local community" before the blaze in April.

It is proposed the construction of a new "more functional space" would replace the fire-damaged building, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

'Carefully designed'

The application said: "No changes are proposed to the use, and the new design aims to capture the spirit of the original establishment while improving functionality and sustainability.

"The form of the proposed restaurant wing has been carefully designed to respect the existing building and surrounding context while providing a functional and visually appealing space."

The owners of the restaurant said at the time of the fire it had destroyed their "beloved Kingswood".

They said the incident had not only affected their lives but their "hard-working and dedicated staff" as well.
