Plans to introduce a 20mph speed limit on a housing estate in Leicester have been approved.

Leicester City Council said the measure would be applied to Watkin Road and six nearby streets in a bid to improve safety.

The authority said it hoped the 20mph limit would also cut exhaust pollution in the area.

A consultation was carried out and 81% of 224 residents who responded said they supported the limit, with 19% opposed.

It will cost £4,000 to implement and will be funded with money from the developers which built the homes, off Upperton Road.
