A trial date has been set for an 82-year-old man accused of the attempted murder of an 81-year-old woman who was seriously injured.

Thames Valley Police was called to reports of an assault with injury at a property in Buckingham Street in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, just after 00:40 GMT on New Year's Day.

The woman sustained life-threatening injuries and remained in hospital, where her condition is described as stable and improving.

Terrence Clarke, of Buckingham Street, Aylesbury, who has been charged with attempted murder, appeared before Aylesbury Crown court on Monday.

A provisional trial date has been set for 23 June at the same court.
