Surrey Fire and Rescue Service is offering free electric blanket safety checks

A fire service is offering free electric blanket safety checks.

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) is running drop-in sessions at three sites across the county where the public can have a fire officer check the safety of their electric blankets.

Last year, almost three quarters (71%) of blankets failed the brigade's safety tests, it said.

Sessions are to be held at Walton Library, Farnham Library and Epsom Methodist Church.

These will take place on 23, 24 and 25 September, respectively.

“It's quick and easy to do, so bring them along to get tested for free,” a SFRS spokesman said.

If an electric blanket fails its test, the fire service will replace it, he added.

The checks are in association with Buckinghamshire and Surrey Trading Standards.
