A man has died after falling from a popular climbing spot in Bristol.

Avon and Somerset Police confirmed on Monday that the climber had died after the incident in the Avon Gorge, near the Clifton Suspension Bridge, on Sunday.

Emergency services were called to the scene beside the busy A4 Portway at 15:44 GMT, with the road closed at the time.

"Despite the efforts of the ambulance service, the man was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene," a police spokesperson said.

His death is not believed to be suspicious, they added, and information is being prepared for the coroner.
