Hundreds of children are expected to participate in the Youth Games 2025 on Saturday.

Organisers said more than 800 school pupils from Year 5 and Year 6 were expected to participate in 23 different sporting competitions.

They said the event would give children the chance to meet new people as they competed in allocated teams rather than their schools.

Nicky Will, from the Guernsey Sports Commission, said: "The children have been training really hard over the past couple of months to learn the rules and tactics of their new sports."

Ms Will said: "It's fantastic to have so many different sports involved this year, and the children really have been spoilt for choice."

This year's event will see archery added to the line-up as well as the return of fencing.

Netball, padel, basketball, sailing, cricket and skateboarding were among the other sports on offer.

The event would ends in a special closing ceremony at Footes Lane at 16:00 BST when the overall winning team was announced and a fair play trophy awarded.

Ms Will said: "We couldn't do this without the amazing support from our member sports and their coaches and volunteers who go out of their way to make sure the children have a great time as well as learning new skills.

"But really the event only happens because of the continued support from our fantastic sponsors Specsavers."
