Stargazers in Wales who stayed out late to catch a glimpse of the Perseid meteor shower were also treated to a Northern Lights display overnight.

Pictures captured late on Monday and in the early hours of Tuesday show the displays from Caerphilly in the south to Penmon on Anglesey in the north.

The Northern Lights - or aurora borealis - have made regular appearances in the UK over the past few months, with more chances expected in the future.

The Perseids pass through our atmosphere every year when the Earth orbits through debris left by the Swift-Tuttle comet.
