The University of Chester had to leave the Guildhall in the summer

The Guildhall in Shrewsbury is likely to become council offices again, following the departure of the University of Chester.

It had been used for lectures since 2016, but Shropshire Council told the university it could no longer offer the use of the building for free.

It has now applied to its own planning committee for a change of use to administrative offices.

The council has previously said it wanted to leave its current Shirehall headquarters, and the change of use could allow staff to move into the Guildhall temporarily.

The Guildhall had previously been council offices, before being offered to the University of Chester in 2014.

The application for the change of use said it would be "regularly occupied 10 hours a day" and five days a week, with some weekend working "as required by council services and partners".

A report on the plans for the Guildhall will be presented to a full council meeting on 26 September.
