Two men have been arrested on suspicion of breaking into a property filled with 300 cannabis plants.

Durham Police was called to an address on Newgate Street, Bishop Auckland, after an alarm was activated at 03:00 BST.

The force said the suspects fled the scene in a vehicle but officers spotted them and "followed the car to a nearby service station".

A 38-year-old and a 32-year-old were arrested on suspicion of burglary and cultivation of cannabis.

The older suspect was also arrested for driving without insurance and while under the influence of drugs.
